The Portique Armchair is inspired by garden swings and the cargo loading gantries of the Port of Nantes / Saint-Nazaire. A native of the city of Nantes, I created this prototype with the craftsmen of the Autonomous Port of Nantes, GPM / Saint-Nazaire.
Drawing on the expertise of boilermakers and carpentry workshops, I used common shipbuilding materials. The aluminum tube is bent, utilizing its lightweight properties, creating an illusion of the apparent strength of the tubes. The traditional natural rope is replaced by nautical polyester and polyamide rope, which is stronger and offers a wider range of colors.
The wooden board is retained, but treated with a noble solid wood (raw oak). This armchair plays on the archetypes of garden games and directly evokes our childhood memories.
